It’s heating up in Texas. Those unbearable Texas temperatures are on their way and they’ll be here before you know it. You better make sure your car is ready for the heat. In Wylie, TX freon is treated like gold! Few things are worse in life than walking in the heat to your car, only to enter your car and realizing you are low on freon because nothing but hot air is blowing from your vents. A car is supposed to be a place of comfort. Furthermore, you should be able to control every aspect of your car including the temperature.
If it is not, then you may need to get your car’s air conditioner checked. There is a chance it needs Freon.
What is Freon?
The dictionary definition is: an aerosol propellant, refrigerant, or organic solvent consisting of one or more of a group of chlorofluorocarbons and related compounds.
In laymen’s terms, it is the substance, or refrigerant, that your air conditioner needs in order to blow cool air.
How do I know if my car is low on Freon?
A vehicle’s air conditioning system is a closed system, meaning itshould not get out once it is in. In addition, Freon is not consumed and it does not evaporate. A lack of Freon means there is something wrong with the A/C system itself. Often times leaks to the hose, or a damage to another part of the system will allow the coolant to seep out from the system, and the vehicle altogether.
Specifically, you’ll generally find you are low after you find something else is wrong with the air conditioning system. Or, if your vehicle vents are blowing out warm or hot air, this should also alert you of a possible lack of coolant. A/C systems for some newer vehicles will completely shutdown if there is a coolant issue.
What should I do if there is an indication of low Freon?
A good mechanic will check the air conditioning system as a whole before topping it off. The last thing you want is for the system to be recharged with coolant just to have it seep out via the same route as it did in the first place.
If there is a leak or any sort of issue with the system then your mechanic will fix it (if you pay for the service of course). Once the A/C system is in tip-top shape, the mechanic will top it off with Freon. Just like that, your car will be back to blowing refreshing cool air.
